Mid-century bed in french oak patinated by rené gabriel, france, 1940s. Edited in 1944 and designed by rené gabriel, this bed dates from the 1940s and is a typical example of so-called reconstruction furniture. The design of emergency products for war victims is simple and functional. The bed has a beautiful patina of use and is in good vintage condition. René gabriel (september 14, 1890 – october 30, 1950) was a french decorative artist and designer specializing in mass-produced furniture. Its clean and logical style inspired many new designers in the years following world war II (1939-45). The prestigious rené gabriel prize continues to be awarded to french designers for modern creations that can be mass-produced.
