Worker in louis XV style marquetry at maison vervelle audot in paris. Finely chiseled gilded bronze ornamentation. It rests on four curved legs decorated with scraps, nets and bronze shoes. The top is decorated on its internal side with a mirror. Engraved on the lock: "maison vervelle audot paris, 1 rue neuve montmorency feydeau" napoleon III period h 72.5 l 51.5 d 37 cm alexandre-louis vervelle born in 1800 in paris and died in 1856. The vervelle house was founded by his father, jean-françois, in 1804. His specialty was small furniture and the most diverse boxes and caskets, tapestries (his first job was an upholsterer). His first business was at 1, rue neuve montmorency, then at 11 and 14 rue feydeau in 1825. In 1840 he had nearly a hundred workers. He then created fancy furniture, wedding baskets, liquor cabinets, travel kits and necessities. In 1830, he published the bulletin of the novelties store, containing the nomenclature of all the small objects he manufactured. The vervelle house was then firmly established, it knew how to manufacture high quality objects at reasonable prices. In his hands, ebony, tortoiseshell, rosewood, rosewood bend into the most capricious and original shapes. Copper, ivory, mother-of-pearl, are encrusted in designs of the happiest effect. He participated in the exhibitions of 1827, 1844 and 1855, where he won honorary prizes. A quality signature, especially after 1835.
