Charles spindler (1865 – 1938 boersch) -- “hoeneck i” -- c.1920 -- marquetry panel -- signed pyrographically lower right -- 282 × 454 mm|11 × 17 3/4 in -- 320 × 490 mm|12 1/2 × 19 1/4 in (framed size) ---- a fine example of spindler’s extraordinary work in wood which sought to demonstrate the medium of marquetry as a fully-fledged method of ‘painting’, here employed to create a view of the rhineland village of hoeneck, near to the artist’s home. The surface of the panel is in perfect original condition, being framed behind glass in the original, ornately beaded and veneered frame. The signature confirms this as an original work by spindler’s own hand (as distinct from later examples produced in his workshop, which remains active today, producing works attributed to charles’ grandson jean-charles). ---- if you wish to purchase more than one work, shipping costs can be signficantly reduced.
