AAB Salt Shaker Art Deco, Silver Plated Brass, Belgium, 1930s

The salt shaker from the 1930s, made in Belgium from silver-plated brass, represents the pure principles of the Art Deco era. Its form is compact, geometric, and symmetrical - resembling a small barrel with a horizontal ring dividing the body into two sections. The matte-satin surface, maintained in a cool silver tone, reveals subtle traces of age: fine scratches, local discolorations, and darker spots of oxidation, especially around the ring and base. The absence of additional decorations or colorful accents highlights the minimalist, functional character, while the slightly flared base ensures stability. Visible joints and body divisions confirm the integrity of the construction. The item is preserved in good condition, with natural signs of use and genuine patina, without serious structural damage. This salt shaker echoes the voice of Belgian modernity from the 1930s, when everyday objects carried the nobility of simple materials and rigorous forms. The cool silver with subtle patina tells of a time when luxury was expressed through functionality and meticulous detail. Every mark on the surface evokes the atmosphere of elegantly set tables in urban tenements of Antwerp - moments when the light from lamps reflected off metal accessories, creating a balanced, modern mood. The salt shaker can serve as a subtle accent on a dining table designed in the Art Deco spirit, especially when paired with porcelain in geometric patterns, glass carafes, or nickel-plated cutlery. It will also find a place in a collector's showcase or in an eclectic arrangement, where its spare, geometric form creates a calm counterpoint to more decorative elements. It is worth combining it with other vintage items from various decades to highlight its modernist lineage.
