Antique candlestick lamps silver plate, a pair, by William Suckling Ltd, 1920`s ca, English, rewired

This pair of table lamps have been gently cleaned while respecting the antique patina. They are newly rewired, earthed, pat tested by an electrician and ready to use. Each has the following new components: lamp holder, grey silk cable, push button switch, white plug and ivory colour silk lampshades. These lamps can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these lights in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity. Both table lamps are stamped on the side of the base "s ld", along with "silver plated on copper england" and a signpost symbol for suckling ltd. This is the 1922 registration by william suckling in birmingham which was founded in 1895. The design consists of a baluster stem of silver plated on copper. This leads to the shoulder & sconce where there is a new lamp holder covered by a cream card candle tube which can be removed. Looking towards the bottom the base is square with an scalloped and stepped edge. The nozzle & shoulder are also square. Both lamps have a push button switch in one corner of the base. The original buttons have been replaced by new switches of silver & white. The candlestick vertical surfaces are elegant, simple & undecorated. A band of foliate & small flowers is present on the well, shoulder & nozzle, creating movement & texture. The casting of these bands is superb. Each lamp is finished with a new clip-on ivory silk lampshade with an ivory fabric trim and lined with ivory coloured fabric. Underneath each base is padded with new black felt to protect the furniture below. Each lamp carries 1 standard small screw light bulb (e14) up to 40 watts. At present they are fitted & photographed with candle clear shaped light bulbs of 28 watts. These are included in the price. These antique lamps are in good original condition. The silver plated surfaces overall are in very good condition for their age with no dents. The original antique patina has been preserved. The silver plate has been gently rubbed.
