Early 20th century red & white hand beaded african ceremony chair. One of the most fun and decorative items we have ever had in our store, is this beautiful beaded chair. And don’t be shy to sit on it, because it is actually quite comfortable. These types of chairs were traditionally created for the yoruba tribe kings and queens and are embellished with thousands of glass beads applied to fabric covers, which are then stitched or glued onto the chair frame – resulting in an exotic chair covered in elaborate beading. It takes approximately 12 to 14 weeks to add these tiny beads to a single chair. Wear consistent with age and use. Normal wear from use, some minor areas where beads are missing (see detail images) but since they are so small, it appears natural and normal. Solid and comfortable. A furniture piece that is truly an art piece as well.
