The art of papier-mâché, a very old technique from the Middle East, arrived in France in the seventeenth century, then developed in England at the beginning of the nineteenth century. An extremely malleable and resistant material, it could be moulded and give rise to furniture with very fanciful shapes. Pedestal table, gondola armchair, worker, console, happiness of the day, lady's desk, the list is long of these very refined pieces of furniture and objects. This manufacturing technique was very popular in France and Europe in the mid-nineteenth century, under Napoleon III and also at the beginning of the twentieth century. This large console is well preserved with some signs of wear due to its age. Rare model that will give a very special touch in the room of your choice (entrance, hallway, living room, office, etc.) Dimensions: H.98 X W.98 X D.35.
