Empire period mirror in gilded and blackened wood – Shell pediment
Superb Empire period mirror, made of light wood (burl/maple) adorned with blackened columns and rich carved and gilded wooden ornaments. This mirror stands out for its elegant neoclassical architecture: Two cylindrical black side columns topped with finely carved gilded capitals. The pediment is decorated with a large stylised shell framed by scrolls, entirely gilded with gold leaf. The lower part is adorned with a relief floral and vegetal motif, also gilded. The contrasting black background highlights the sculpted elements. The whole offers a refined contrast between the satin light wood, deep black, and gilding, typical of early 19th-century Empire taste. The antique mirror shows slight foxing and some signs of age, contributing to its authentic charm. Height: 112 cm Width: 55 cm Depth: 9 cm Healthy and stable structure Gilding in good condition with slight patina Some signs of use consistent with age Original mirror with minor alterations to the silvering 19th century – Empire style Elegant entrance Classic or Haussmannian salon Napoleonic/Empire decor Highlighted above a console or chest of drawers Strong decorative piece, authentic and full of character.
