Spectacular wall sconce by Toni Zuccheri for VeArt. Italy, 1970s. A very rare piece by this fabulous designer. Chrome-plated metal arm supporting a magnificent blown Murano glass shade. Transparent, with very light sky-blue hues. Given dimensions: Height 30 cm. Width 25 cm. Depth 30 cm. Superb condition, with a few minor signs of age, nothing significant. Toni Zuccheri: Born in San Vito al Tagliamento (Udine) in 1936. His father was the painter Luigi Zuccheri. His mother, Jolanda, was the sister of the poet and philosopher Giacomo Noventa. In 1945, the family settled in Venice, where he met important figures in culture and art: Giorgio De Chirico, Carlo Scarpa, Giorgio Bassani, Elio Zorzi, Mario Soldati, and others. In 1960, he studied architecture, his professors including Franco Albini, Ignazio Gardella, Ludovico Belgioioso, Carlo Scarpa, Bruno Zevi, and Samonà. He developed an interest in glass and began working at a very young age at Venini, where he invented and reinvented working techniques, forms, and colors. He later worked with Gio Ponti, Lucio Fontana, and Gaetano Pesce, among others, and his passion for glass remained with him until his death in 2008.
