Children's bed in Empire style made of mahogany and mahogany veneer - For standard mattress and bed base of 190 cm x 80 cm. Dimensions: length - 205 cm, height - 70 cm, depth - 101 cm. In good general condition. This small Empire-style bed, made between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, stands out for its sober and rigorous interpretation of forms inherited from the First Empire. Crafted from solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, it features an architectural structure characterised by clean lines and pronounced symmetry. The headboard and footboard adopt a rectangular elevation, each composed of panels that highlight the warm and nuanced grain of the wood, reflecting careful craftsmanship and attention to the aesthetics of the material. The posts are formed of free-standing columns, typical of the Empire vocabulary, evoking classical antiquity. These columns are accentuated by finely chiselled decorative bronze ornamentation, which rhythmically enhances the vertical composition and provides an elegant contrast to the deep hue of the mahogany. The upper ends of the posts feature softened scrolls, giving the whole a certain monumentality tempered by the sobriety of the volumes. The side rails, also in mahogany, ensure visual continuity with the main panels. The entire piece rests on discreet integrated feet, contributing to the overall stability of the furniture. Designed to accommodate a standard mattress and bed base of 80 × 190 cm, this bed combines functionality with formal elegance. It represents a typical example of late 19th-century production inspired by the Empire style, where historical reference is reinterpreted with a certain restraint, prioritising the quality of materials and the purity of lines.
