This superb 3-seater sofa, typical of mid-20th century modern design, was designed by Johannes Andersen and made from solid rosewood with a concealed steel frame. Its innovative design gives it a light and transparent appearance, while it is actually very robust and exceptionally comfortable. The burgundy leather upholstery shows some creases and scratches but remains supple and visually striking for a piece over 60 years old. The solid rosewood structure is in excellent original condition. Johannes Andersen (1903-1991) was a Danish cabinetmaker from Aarhus, who became an influential figure in mid-20th century design. Trained in cabinetmaking in the early 1920s, he established his studio in the 1930s. Andersen is renowned for his elegant teak and rosewood furniture, characterised by clean lines, organic curves, and functional beauty, hallmarks of Danish modern design.
