Beautiful Murano glass vase in perfect condition. The vase appears to have just come out of the box. No chips, defects, etc. Unique piece. Venetian glass is made in Venice, usually on the island of Murano near the city. Traditionally made with a soda-lime glass "metal, " it is usually elaborately decorated with various hot glass forming techniques, as well as gilding, enamelling, or engraving. Production has been concentrated on the Venetian island of Murano since the 13th century. Today, Murano is recognised for its art glass, with a long history of glassmaking innovations in addition to its artistic reputation—and was the major centre in Europe for luxury glass from the High Middle Ages to the Italian Renaissance. In the 15th century, Murano glassmakers created cristallo, an almost transparent glass considered the finest in the world. They also developed a white glass called lattimo that imitates porcelain. They became the best European manufacturers of mirrors.
