Louis XV chest of drawers opening with four drawers on three rows, in rosewood veneer and rosewood. Facade and curved sides with exposed crossbeams. Grey period marble veined with white with corbin's beak. Arched and flared feet. Beautiful ornamentation in chiseled and gilded bronzes. Golden and chiseled key. Period locks. Old restorations. Nice general condition. Dimensions: width-130cm high-85cm depth-63cm. Parisian work of the Louis XV era stamped twice on right anterior foot and high crossbeam, J.G. SCHLICHTIG received master cabinetmaker in 1765. Hallmark of Jura (JME). Jean-Georges SCHLICHTIG, talented Parisian master cabinetmaker, of German origin, received on October 2, 1765, settled rue du faubourg Saint-Antoine then rue Saint-Nicolas to produce essentially Transition and Louis XVI furniture in rosewood veneer in violet or amaranth wood frames. He made more sophisticated furniture, with a rich and fine decoration of marquetry, such as trophies or bouquet of flowers but also landscape. A chest of drawers with Queen Marie-Antoinette's cipher now in the Louvre attests to her qualities as a marqueter. Various museums preserve furniture from his workshop, Beauvais, Château de Champs sur Marne, Château de Chantilly, Carnavalet in Paris and the Louvre. He died in 1782.
