Large tunisian rug in pure sheep's wool, decorated with geometric and abstract patterns, probably coming from kairouan. Ancestral tunisian know-how. Old carpet in good general condition, traces of use and wear + some stains to note, see photos. The price takes into account the wear of the carpet. Original camel color. Large format: 191 X 290 cm. Old patterns. "the margoum is a rug halfway between the classic knotted-stitch rug and the woven kilim. Finer than a knotted rug, thicker than a kilim, the margoum rug is unique in its kind. The weave of the margoum is always in wool, and its warp in cotton. This is its particularity: this mixture gives it a rigid and solid appearance, heavier and thicker than its cousin the kilim. The margoum rug also has the particularity that it is manufactured according to the traditions of the oldest with regard to its weaving methods: the bottom of the margoum is woven like on a kilim, and the motifs are embroidered using knots, like on a classic carpet, but inside out. Therefore has no pile but a smooth appearance with reliefs. On its back side, the wool return threads testify to the artisanal authenticity of this handmade rug. The main design of the margoum is the diamond, "regma" in arabic, from which the word “mergoum” comes. However, margoum is of berber origin, for whom the diamond symbolizes fertility. There are three main types of patterns: a multitude of small diamonds, medium-sized diamonds, or a large central diamond.".
