A rare sculptural vase by Belgian ceramist Antonio Lampecco (1932-2019), who spent over sixty years at the ceramics workshop of the Maredsous Abbey before opening his own studio in Maredret. While he is best known for his small-opening round vases, he also produced a rarer body of sculptural pieces inspired by the pyramids, totems, and mountains of his native Italy; this shuttle belongs to that family. An asymmetrical shape reminiscent of a weaver's shuttle, it can be placed flat as a sculptural piece or upright on its tip like a vase. The glaze is a nuanced grey-green, ranging from light sage green to almost black, with small areas where the reddish clay shows through, an effect of glaze intended by the artist. Characteristics. Artist: Antonio Lampecco (1932-2019), Belgian ceramist of Italian origin. Period: circa 1970s. Origin: Maredret, Belgium. Materials: ceramic/glazed stoneware. Dimensions: approximately 45 cm (length) X 19 cm. Condition: excellent, no chips or missing parts observed; small reddish-orange areas = intentional glaze effect, not a defect. Signature: incised monogram "LA" under the base.
