A renowned French painter known for his innovative contributions to contemporary art, particularly in abstraction and gestural painting. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Kijno's youth was shaped by the turmoil of World War II, which influenced his artistic vision and sensibilities. After moving to France in 1925, Kijno pursued his passion for art, also studying philosophy and later attending the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. It was there that he encountered surrealism and abstract expressionism, but he quickly developed his own distinctive style, characterised by dynamic brushwork, vibrant colours, and a deep exploration of gesture and movement.
