Ceramic plate by Georges Destrebecq (1925-1984), mid-20th century. The Nimy Mastery (1943-1950) was a movement composed of eight artists, including Georges Destrebecq, Fernande Massart, Louis Waem, René Lemaigre, Pierre Monnaie, André Hupet, Irène Zacq, and Geneviève Noé. Pioneers in their desire to elevate ceramics to the status of art, and in the rise of the unique piece, as a reaction against industrialization. Unique decorations based on variations on a single theme in terms of technique and background form. A work of research into material, form, and decoration, a precursor to the 1950s. Diameter 20 cm. Decoration created sometimes by a composition of different sgraffito friezes (recessed carving) and sometimes by enamel applied with a brush. Earth-colored enamels, red tones, and gold highlights. White clay ceramic. Good overall condition, see photos. Very little chipping, no missing pieces. Some minor losses to the gilding. Signed on the base. Height 4 cm x Diameter 20 cm.
