An exceptionally long Model 1730 sideboard designed by Horst Brüning and produced by Behr in Germany during the 1960s. The sideboard is defined by its extremely low and elongated proportions, with a minimalist white cabinet resting on a slender metal base. Narrow rectangular legs and the recessed front emphasize the strong horizontal lines and give the 310 cm wide cabinet a surprisingly light appearance. Large sliding doors with small rectangular handles conceal generous storage compartments, including a section with multiple internal drawers. The restrained exterior keeps all storage neatly hidden while maintaining the clean architectural character of the design. Precise proportions, minimal detailing and the contrast between the substantial cabinet and slender base reflect Brüning’s clear approach to German modern design of this period.
