Oval Mirror in Rattan. Woven Willow and Bamboo. French Work from the Riviera.

This mirror features an oval frame made up of several rows of tightly woven wicker in undulating patterns, from which short bamboo stems with visible knots radiate all around, arranged in a crown of regular rays. The oval glass, set in the centre, is enhanced by the depth of the frame and the contrast between the supple weaving and the graphic rigidity of the rays. This natural interpretation of the sun mirror — a hallmark motif of 1950s-1960s decor — is characteristic of the work from the Riviera, where the wicker workshops along the coast adapted the great classics of decor in rattan, wicker, and bamboo for the villas and hotels of the Mediterranean coastline. Condition report: Generally good condition. The wicker is sound and complete with a uniform blonde patina. A sunny and warm mirror, whether alone or as part of a wall composition, in an entrance or a bedroom.
