Degué wall sconces are iconic fixtures of the Art Deco style from the 1930s, created by glass artist and industrialist David Guéron. The founder: David Guéron (born in 1892), a Turkish immigrant and former member of the Foreign Legion, founded the Degué brand (a contraction of his name) in the 1920s. Influences and lawsuits: Initially, Degué was inspired by the creations of Daum, Gallé, and Schneider, which led to plagiarism lawsuits from Charles Schneider in the early 1930s. Materials and design: The company found its own identity under the artistic direction of Edouard Cazaux. The sconces combine thick pressed-molded glass, satin, opalescent, or colored (sometimes with stylized geometric and floral patterns), with frames made of bronze, chrome-plated brass, or polished brass. Peak: The brand produced large-scale pieces, such as lighting decorations for the famous ocean liner Le Normandie. World War II: As a Jew and foreigner, David Guéron had to flee France in 1939 to escape Nazi persecution, which marked the definitive end of Degué Art Glass. Careful shipping with double packaging and foam.
