Charming oil on canvas depicting a bucolic scene with a cow on the edge of a river, in a hilly landscape bathed in light. The composition, of great apparent simplicity, demonstrates a real attention to detail and a sensitivity to atmospheric rendering. The work is signed lower right e. Franc, probably the signature of an artist active at the end of the 19th century. With its naturalistic treatment, its sober and realistic palette, as well as its rural subject, this painting is in line with the productions of the french school of the late 19th century, in the movement of the barbizon school or regional painters influenced by the return to nature. The gilded and painted wooden frame, with red thread, underlines the classical elegance of the whole. Dimensions: work: 40 X 32 cm frame: 47 X 39 cm condition: original canvas on stretcher, with visible wear (lack of material on the left side of the work). Some marks on the frame, consistent with the age of the whole. The overall condition remains good and stable, with image readability preserved.
