Old ironstone dish J S & Co – Hunting

A large round plate with a blue printed decoration produced by Jacques Strauss & Cie, a pottery active in Clairefontaine between 1863 and 1891. The decoration, printed in shades of deep blue, combines a generous vegetal border — oak leaves, acorns, branches — with a finely rendered central animal scene, featuring a doe and a stag captured in a clearing surrounded by bushes and tree trunks. The back bears the mark "J.S. & Cie, Terre de Fer, France.".
