Baoulé goli mask, carved from wood and covered with varnish, originating from côte d'ivoire. This type of mask is used during goli ceremonies, a ritual dance practiced by the baoulé people to mark important events such as funerals, agricultural festivals, or initiation rites. This mask displays characteristic features of baoulé art, with an oval and symmetrical face, half-closed eyes reflecting a meditative expression, and a prominent mouth. A carved bird is positioned on the top of the mask, a recurring element in african art symbolizing wisdom and communication with the spiritual world. The finely serrated edges accentuate the finesse of the craftsmanship. The wood has been varnished, which gives it a shiny appearance and protects the surface. The interior of the mask reveals a natural patina of use, attesting to its authenticity. Some traces of time are visible, including signs of wear and a few small cracks, but these do not affect its solidity or aesthetics.
