3415 – stew spoon – silver plated metal – ruolz old and beautiful stew spoon, probably late 19th century, in silver plated metal, violin model, numbered fillet, in good condition. No lack of silvering with micro-scratches from normal use. 6 hallmarks including that of the ruolz silversmith and grammage. Length 280 mm X 55 mm. Weight 150 g. Careful and tracked shipping. For information, henri de ruolz, french composer and chemist (1808-1887) and the englishman henry elkington (1801-1865) simultaneously filed a patent for silvering pieces by electrolysis in 1840. Process sold to charles christofle (1805-1863) in 1842 and which he developed with his nephew henri bouilhet. It was common at that time to say that the table cutlery was ruolz and not silver.
