It is the entire Breton art that unfolds in this vintage plate: a fabulous bird with a flamboyant crest and a long arched tail, set amidst an explosion of stylised flowers — red daisies, blue bells, and green scrolls, painted freehand with the generosity and spontaneity characteristic of Quimper. The double blue and gold line that highlights the rim, followed by a round of floral motifs running to the contoured edge, completes this composition that is as vibrant as it is refined. Stamped on the reverse: "HB Quimper France, entirely hand-decorated, " accompanied by the handwritten reference "F6 N°4 PM." The HB pottery of Quimper, heir to a Breton pottery tradition dating back to the 18th century, perpetuates through this type of piece the know-how of local decorators: each example, entirely hand-painted, carries its share of uniqueness.
