Greenery tapestry

€344

Imposing greenery tapestry, representing in the foreground, a lush and shimmering wood (typical of the greenery tapestries particularly popular in Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries, especially in France and Flanders), filled with animals such as: a deer, two does, a squirrel and two wild birds. (Mid to late 20th century.) In the background, we are in the gardens and we can see a guard, on the edge of the woods, carrying a halberd and walking as if patrolling around the nail of our tapestry in the background, giving all its meaning to this scene... a castle! This tapestry probably dates from the mid to late 20th century, when we look closely at the execution, the details of its realization and its finishes, it remains nonetheless a magnificent tapestry perfectly in line with the greenery tapestries systematically representing: natural landscapes, forest or garden scenes, lush vegetation, and including animals and birds, like here! These woven works of art were particularly popular in Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries, often commissioned by the nobility and wealthy bourgeoisie to decorate their residences and demonstrate their status and taste for art and nature, particularly in France and Flanders. They served not only as wall decoration, but also as thermal insulation in large residences and castles… Height: 112cm. Width: 160cm. Weight: 2.5kg. Wall fixings (included): Pair of wooden strips with Velcro and numbered holes to fix to the wall. (see last photo.) A souvenir from another era, this object may show some signs of wear.
