Umbrella holder, art nouveau - 1920

Rare umbrella holder or cane holder with japanese decoration depicting dragons and a samurai warrior in traditional clothes. This large cylindrical glazed ceramic vase is painted an intense midnight blue and a luminous green, reminiscent of an aurora borealis. The characters evolve in relief. A long dragon wraps itself around the vase, its body and head covered with scale. The appearance of this mythological creature seems menacing with its wide claws splitting the cloudy sky. Another dragon emerges from a large jar. A samurai approaches him to kill him. With his body moving and his face grave, the warrior raises his katana ready to pounce on this flamboyant creature.
