This painting "The Forest of Merlin" illustrates the story of "Merlin the Enchanter" who, in the "Forest of Brocéliande", could transform himself as he pleased using his many spells. Enchanted by "Fairy Viviane", he unfortunately revealed to her the secret of his powers. She took advantage of this to betray his trust by using it against him.
