Pierre Jeanneret lounge chairs PJ-SI-29-A in teak and Cane, 1950s

Rare Pierre Jeanneret “Fauteuil en Teck”, PJ-SI-29-A lounge chairs, created in the 1950s for the city of Chandigarh in India, the utopian city designed by his cousin Le Corbusier. These incredible chairs are made of solid teak with seat and backrest in braided canework. The ‘Fauteuils en Teck’ were part of the furniture from the administrative and university buildings of Chandigarh, as where these chairs come from too. Jeanneret’s designs stand out for their essential forms and simple materials, a balance between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. Another interesting and nowadays relevant fact about these and other Chandigarh furniture is that all pieces were made from the trees which were cut because the city was built, an early adaptation of ecological thinking. These chairs each come with their own character from being handmade in the 1950s, they have been restored and revised where needed to ensure quality while still showing the beauty and character of age.
