A striking French Gothic Revival settle bench crafted in solid oak, dating to around 1850. Richly hand-carved throughout, this impressive architectural seat displays all the hallmarks of the Gothic Revival movement, with pointed arch motifs, deeply carved panels, and an elaborate high back reminiscent of medieval ecclesiastical woodwork. The backrest is composed of four carved panels beneath a series of open arches, creating a sense of lightness despite the substantial construction. Particularly noteworthy are the finely carved lion-mask terminals flanking the arms, each fitted with a brass ring, lending the piece a heraldic and almost throne-like presence. Additional carved ornamentation adorns the crest, uprights, apron, and feet, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the period. Constructed from richly patinated oak, the bench exhibits a warm, deep brown color and beautiful grain throughout. Equally suitable as a functional seating piece or as a statement decorative object, it would enhance Gothic, Renaissance Revival, eclectic, traditional, and contemporary interiors alike. A rare and highly decorative example of mid-19th century French Gothic Revival furniture. Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, minor surface marks and patina consistent with age and use. The photographs form an integral part of the description and condition report.
