Sculptural Vase XXL - Josef Hospodka for Chribska - (38 cm) - 1960

Absolute centrepiece of Mid-Century glass design, this monumental sculpture in Bohemian crystal (38cm, 3.9kg) is a true masterpiece of Mid-Century design. Created by the master Josef Hospodka for the Chribska factory (circa 1960), this large two-colour Space Age vase captures light with spectacular intensity. Art & Technique. Illustrating the virtuosity of "Hutní sklo" (hot-worked glass), this biomorphic piece is shaped without a mould or cold cutting. The incandescent mass was stretched with tongs to form elegant organic lobes. The technique used, a sublime Bohemian equivalent of Venetian Sommerso, allowed for the encapsulation of a gradient merging vibrant fuchsia magenta and deep sapphire blue at the heart of the work, all submerged in heavy diaphanous crystal. The craftsmanship is luxurious: the central pontil under the base is perfectly ground and polished, marking the gesture of a great master glassmaker. Dimensions & Weight. Height: 38 cm. Width: 20 cm.
