Pair of 1950s Czechoslovak Vintage Leather Medicine Balls

A characterful pair of original leather medicine balls produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1950s. Constructed from individually cut and stitched leather panels with their original filling, the two balls display a beautiful warm brown patina developed through decades of use. The aged surfaces retain scratches, marks, variations in tone and other traces of their original life as gymnasium sporting equipment. With diameters of 23 cm (9.06 in) and 19 cm (7.48 in), the contrasting sizes make them particularly appealing when displayed together. Beyond their original sporting purpose, they work beautifully today as sculptural decorative objects and would complement an industrial, mid-century, eclectic or sports-inspired interior.
