Prayer chair

The prie-dieu is a liturgical piece of furniture on which one kneels to pray to god. During the second half of the nineteenth century and until the beginning of the 1st world war, craftsmen and furniture manufacturers offer prie-gods for churches. It is most often a kind of low chair (more rarely a bench) with a degree that acts as a kneeling (sometimes mobile when the seat has a folding part), and an armrest, book rest or desk.
