A rare and refined piece, this large handmade earthenware lamp base is signed RC on the reverse, for Roger Colas, earthenware maker in Clamecy (Nièvre). Heir to a family tradition, Roger took over the earthenware factory in 1937 and developed the famous “Cachemire” decoration, emblematic of the workshop, recognizable by its stylized bouquets and colorful ornaments. Dating from the 1950s–1960s, this lamp base has an elegant gadrooned shape, very typical of the mid-century aesthetic, a hand-painted decoration in a beautiful palette of reds, greens, blues and delicate dots and a luminous enamel that highlights the craftsmanship. A versatile piece, it can be reassembled as a lamp (electrification required, presence of the bridge for the wire on the base see photos) or diverted into a large candleholder, for a chic and romantic flea market decoration. Signed RC (Roger Colas) L23. Height 23 cm, base diameter 15 cm, opening diameter for equipment 2.5. Good vintage condition. Please note: old accident carefully glued back together, the piece remains perfectly stable and usable. The repair mark is visible but discreet, without detracting from the general charm (at the base above the blue and green borders - see photos). For an authentic and vintage touch with the know-how of a Nivernais earthenware factory.
