Two solid walnut chairs. Work from the suburbs, circa 1900

Pair of very high-quality chairs, typical of the Faubourg St Antoine in Paris, where cabinetmakers gathered to create period furniture according to the rules of the art. And the quality is there: pegged, decorated with hand-carved rosettes at the top of the front legs, these two chairs are made of solid walnut and of incredible density. We also find this old concern of having two identical chairs but of a slightly different model. Thus, one is entirely covered in dark checked velvet while the other offers a superb caned back with crosspieces dyed in the wicker. Very beautiful work, in perfect condition. We also note the quality of the coverings and their undeniable modernity (which stems from their timeless classic design).
