A pretty vintage ironstone dish, whose blue floral decoration will add a touch of charm to a family table as well as to a china cabinet. Oval in shape, it features a wing adorned with a blue printed frieze composed of scalloped foliage and garlands of small heart-shaped flowers, reminiscent of lady's tears, arranged in regular arcs all around the rim. A central clover motif echoes the same decor and balances the whole. The deep blue, slightly nuanced, stands out beautifully against the cream-white background of the glaze. On the back, a simple printed letter "E." A practical and decorative serving dish from yesteryear, ideal for presenting meats, vegetables, or cheeses. Ironstone became established in France during the 19th century as a robust alternative to traditional earthenware. Harder and more durable due to high-temperature firing, it allowed large manufacturers to mass-produce tableware that was both solid and refined, often adorned with printed decorations by transfer, very fashionable in homes at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Generally in good condition with some small stains and firing spots, a small brown mark on the edge, and signs of use related to age. Dimensions: Length 33.5 cm X Width 22.5 cm.
