2 copies available. Chilean 1960 in raw wood, with armrests. Orange striped fabric and cream dating from the 50s installed recently. A few holes of tendrils in the wood, treated and oiled. Traces of normal wear and tear. Three possible positions. ⚠️ although solid, these objects should be handled with care given their age. Care must be taken to maintain the wood once a year so that it retains its flexibility. —- Ideal for the living room or garden, or for the pros in a shop window or a photo studio. —- A bit of history. If the deckchair has now become a standard of garden furniture, its history smells rather of the fresh air of the open sea. Indeed, the first seats of this type made their official appearance on liners making the transatlantic crossing at the end of the nineteenth century. Originally called "deck chair", a comfortable seat easily foldable and stackable at the slightest grain then appeared on the pontoons of boats to seduce the wealthy clientele. The first models are made of wood and rattan and equipped with a footrest and armrests. They will very quickly take the name of "transat", diminutive of "transatlantic". On land, with the arrival of paid holidays in france, in 1936, and the birth of mass tourism, the deckchair also spread on the beaches. The rattan is replaced by a solid fabric canvas, and the frame is now made of teak, acacia or beech. If its original authorship is not known, modernist designers will have fun redesigning this new model. Among the best known is the fauteuil transat, by the french architect and designer robert mallet-stevens (1886-1945). This very sleek model, made of a simple off-white cotton canvas, suspended from a green lacquered sheet metal structure, was made to decorate the swimming pool of the villa of viscount charles de noailles, between 1923 and 1925.
