Important display cabinet in carved walnut – Renaissance style

Spectacular display cabinet in carved wood, Renaissance style, dating from the mid-19th century. Of very fine decorative quality, this piece features particularly rich architecture, rhythmically accented by powerful turned and carved columns, panels decorated with scrolls, foliage, rosettes, masks, and floral motifs. The upper part opens with a large door whose central panel is treated as a true Renaissance architecture, framed by columns and topped with an entablature. In the center, in a niche, stands a warrior figure carved in the round, holding a shield and a spear. The lower part, widely open, is supported by two significant turned columns. The background is adorned with deeply carved panels, notably a mask surrounded by scrolls and garlands of flowers and fruits. The interior holds a true surprise: it is fitted with numerous small drawers, whose fronts are decorated with panels of speckled red marble, arranged on either side of a central mirror. The interior top features remarkable geometric marquetry in the shape of a star or compass rose, made from several contrasting wood species. The large door retains an impressive old metal lock, as well as long decorative hinges that are engraved and cut, enhancing the historicist and precious character of the whole. A spectacular piece due to its proportions, the richness of its sculpture, and especially its particularly elaborate interior layout, typical of the historicist taste of the 19th century.
