An original Art Nouveau colour lithograph with four designs in copper and ochre tones: a frieze of pheasants and a fox in cut copper, a candlestick in the shape of a dog, a semis of bees as a wallpaper pattern and a jardinière with foxes, squirrels and birds in repoussé copper. From the famous Art Nouveau portfolio 'L’Animal dans la décoration' (Paris, 1897) by Maurice Pillard Verneuil, with an introduction by Eugène Grasset. In this book Verneuil showed how animals could be stylised into ornament, carpets, wallpaper and decorative art; the plates were printed as colour lithographs by Imprimerie Lemercier in Paris. Below the image are the French titles of the designs (‘Faisans et renard, frise cuivre découpé – Chien, chandelier – Abeilles, semis – Renards, écureuils et oiseaux, jardinière cuivre repoussé’). Condition: Good. Bright colours. The paper is lightly toned with a few spots and light edge wear in the margins. No tears in the image.
