Small Clamecy earthenware vase, 1950s. Signed Roger Colas. Numbered 236. Hand-painted polychrome floral decoration, Clamecy. In 1937, Roger Colas, an earthenware craftsman, took over the Clamecy earthenware factory and laid the foundations of a family business. Through his originality, he created new designs such as the rose and cashmere patterns with birds and colored backgrounds. New products such as earthenware chandeliers were born. Roger Colas was born in the neighboring village of Dornecy. A complete autodidact, he learned from books and developed his art alongside his master, Mr. Folle, a former decorator at the Samson and Bloch establishments in Paris, specializing in Sèvres, Fontainebleau, and other decors. Gold relief. He would collaborate with Duquenelle, whose work he continued in 1940. 1937. With a strong personality and exceptional creative talents, Roger Colas produced the majority of shapes, models and molds from 1925 until the 1970s.
