In 1937, Roger Colas, an earthenware craftsman, took over the Clamecy earthenware factory and laid the foundations of a family business. Through his originality, he created new designs such as the rose and cashmere patterns with birds and colored backgrounds. New products such as earthenware chandeliers were born. Roger Colas was born in the neighboring village of Dornecy. A complete autodidact, he learned from books and developed his art alongside his master, Mr. Folle, a former decorator at the Samson and Bloch establishments in Paris, specializing in Sèvres, Fontainebleau, and other decors.
