“Bornholmereolen” bookcase by Johannes Sorth for Bornholms Møbelfabrik

Teak bookcase with adjustable shelves, three wide drawers and a pull-out writing surface. Johannes Sorth for Bornholms Møbelfabrik, Denmark, 1950s/60s. Designed by Johannes Sorth for Bornholms Møbelfabrik, the “Bornholmereolen” combines a bookcase, chest of drawers and writing desk within a single piece. The upper section is arranged with adjustable shelves, while below is a pull-out surface that extends the work area and allows the piece to function as a writing desk. Three wide drawers with paired recessed handles complete the lower section. Particularly distinctive are the side panels, which curve gently where the bookcase meets the chest of drawers, a recurring detail in Sorth’s furniture for the Danish manufacturer. The raised base with tapered legs and a connecting stretcher keeps the overall proportions visually light. Good condition. It may show signs of age. Please pay attention to the photographs. AG415
