In 1960, the French designer Pierre Paulin decided to create an armchair for the Dutch publisher Artifort responding to the new desires of consumers who, in a post-war context, wanted to find novelty, cheerfulness and comfort in their interiors. For the creation of his armchair combining comfort and aesthetics, he drew his inspiration as generally from nature and organic forms with this time as objective, an armchair resembling a mushroom. Artifort still publishes this model which it offers in several versions with the pouf but also a Junior and Big version. The structure is made up of an internal hoop made up of three rings: one for the floor, the second for the seat and the last forming the armrests. The armchair is padded with Gommapiuma, a rubber foam patented a few years earlier by Pirelli. Its organic shape, rounded and enveloping, allows optimal comfort for the user. It features a spacious seat and a low back that curves back to provide ergonomic support. A plywood plate is used to stabilize the base, which has no legs. The whole thing is covered in leopard fabric. In very good condition, completely reupholstered in our workshop.
