Splendid art deco ceramic in blue and beige flamed stoneware with a removable stopper. It is signed Gilbert Méténier, circa 1930, born in Moulins on September 30, 1876, succeeded his father Louis Méténier in 1920 and ensured the reputation of Méténier art stoneware. The art stoneware produced by Gilbert Méténier widely used the techniques of iridescence and crystallization (crystalline enamels) for the surface decoration. The activity continued until 1940, at which time Gilbert Méténier is said to have destroyed all the molds "so that they do not fall into the hands of the occupier." Méténier stoneware, sometimes called "bleus de gannat," is all the more sought after as its enthusiasts are assured of only encountering authentic pieces since, due to the destruction of the molds and matrices, it is not technically possible to make copies of the pieces created by this factory between 1920 and 1939. Size: h 24 cm l 12 cm. Ideal as decoration on a pretty chest of drawers or a bookcase. Fast and careful shipping.
