Luminist painting depicting a snow-capped country landscape by jean-baptiste scoriel, dated 1948. We find in this painting all the qualities of the painter and his influences: light, calm and sobriety and this horizon line reminiscent of the work of valerius de saedeleer... Large format, painting in very good condition, frame of old origin and quality (total dimensions: 90 X 105 cm). Biography: J-b. Scoriel (lambusart 1883 - tamines 1956): "master of snow", jean-baptiste schorielle was very early passionate about drawing and painting. He found himself orphaned in 1895 and worked in a factory (brickworks and foundry) to support himself but nevertheless tried to follow the courses of the school of fine arts of namur, of which théodore baron was the director. The landscapes of the villages of the sambre and the biesme are established as his favorite subjects, signing j-b. Scoriel, he is part of the current of the school of émile claus where light prevails. Scoriel is in constant search of calm and light. From the 1920s, he painted snowy landscapes, the "snows of scoriel" fascinate they earned him his second nickname, first "master of the sambre" and then "master of the snow". In 1954, a retrospective will be dedicated to him... The works of j-b scoriel are present in many collections and museums including the province of namur.
