Soup tureen of the delicious and well-known “fontanges” model. “fontanges” is a model full of charm and french history which began to be manufactured by the u&c (utzschneider and cie) factory in sarreguemines at the end of the 19th century. Here we have a tureen produced after 1920. The earthenware is white in color with floral motifs made by transfer of burgundy red color giving a pink appearance by gradient. On the edges there are friezes made of acanthus leaves. The name of the model refers to the marquise de fontanges, the last favorite of the sun king louis xiv, who was of great beauty. She notably gave her name to a style of hairstyle which was very fashionable in european courts. The fontange hairstyle (without s) is made with ribbon. The presence of a ribbon in the pattern alludes to this hairstyle. Condition (see photos): fairly good condition, no cracks. No signs of use note: a significant chip on the edge of the body of the tureen. A stain of use inside at the level of a manufacturing defect. A small stain also on the outside. Some minimal manufacturing defects common on objects from this period. We offer other fontanges pieces in our store.
