Table lamp by Claudio Salocchi for Lumenform. 1971. Italy. “Biglia” Chrome plating. 14cm high (25cm including bulb), 12cm wide, 12cm deep. Claudio Salocchi (1934–2012) was an Italian architect and industrial designer known for his refined, technically precise work across furniture and lighting. Trained at the Politecnico di Milano, he opened his studio in 1960 and collaborated with firms like Sormani and Lumenform. Among his best-known designs is the Biglia lamp (1971) for Lumenform: a compact table lamp featuring a chrome cradle supporting a glowing glass globe, exemplifying his minimalist yet sculptural approach. Salocchi also designed modular furniture systems and received a Compasso d’Oro for his Metrosistema kitchen in 1979. Active in design education and industry bodies, including as vice-president of ADI, Salocchi remains a key figure in postwar Italian design, bridging architecture and product design with clarity and restraint.
