Clock - louis XV style cartel from the late 19th century. The body, fiddled and curved, is veneered with red-tinted tortoiseshell and decorated with gilded bronzes. The movement and dial signed "planchon au palais royal". Superb condition, the movement works (but the key is not present), note a repair to the enamel dial (the price takes the repair into account) mathieu planchon (1842-1921) is a watchmaker, historian and theorist of the watchmaking. He settled in paris, at the palais-royal, in the 1870s. He also worked with jean e. Robert-houdin, famous watchmaker and manufacturer of automata before becoming a famous illusionist. He studies the systems of “mysterious clocks” and his work will be followed by maurice couet who will ensure the creation of these famous mysterious clocks for the famous jeweler cartier. Planchon will also reconstruct the clock donated by viollet-le-duc as well as the monumental clock by jean fusoris for bourges cathedral in his dictionary of furniture.
