An exceptionally decorative and highly collectible antique French Aubusson tapestry cushion, dating to the 17th century, featuring a finely woven classical figural composition in a beautifully aged palette of muted ivory, warm beige, deep blue, soft green and touches of red. Measuring approximately 50 × 25 cm, this unusual rectangular cushion has been created using an early Aubusson tapestry panel depicting a reclining classical figure surrounded by architectural and ornamental details. The restrained colours and naturally softened surface give the textile the wonderfully mellow character associated with centuries-old European tapestries. The tapestry panel is framed by a generous hand-finished tasselled fringe, adding texture and emphasising its historic decorative character. The cushion has been sympathetically adapted for contemporary use with a fabric backing and zipper closure, allowing the antique textile to be enjoyed as a functional decorative object while retaining its distinctive period appearance.
