Shelf - Japonese-style Art Nouveau display cabinet in mahogany and mother-of-pearl. Period: Late 19th century – around 1890/1900. Charming shelf - display cabinet in Japonese style, made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, characteristic of the Art Nouveau taste of the late 19th century. This piece features a very elegant asymmetrical composition, inspired by the arts of the Far East that were in vogue at the time. The upper part is adorned with a pierced pediment centred on a marquetry decoration depicting a bird in flight. On the left, a display case with a glass door and glass shelf allows for the presentation of trinkets or collectibles. On the right, open shelves are enhanced with flowing cutouts and delicate pyrographed floral decorations. The door of the lower compartment features a finely engraved Japonese decoration depicting bamboo, flowers, butterflies, and a stylised bridge, enhanced with mother-of-pearl inlays. The uprights, consoles, and crosspieces are richly pierced and sculpted, highlighting the lightness of the whole. The piece rests on four curved feet joined by a stretcher shelf. A refined decorative piece, ideal for an Art Nouveau, eclectic, or Japonese-style interior. Dimensions: Height: 178 cm. Width: 73 cm. Depth: 35 cm. Condition: Good overall condition. Some signs of use and slight wear consistent with the age of the piece. Notable are a few small losses to the mother-of-pearl inlays and slight signs of age that do not affect the overall aesthetic. Period: Late 19th century, around 1890-1900. Style: Japonese Art Nouveau. Materials: Mahogany, mahogany veneer, mother-of-pearl, glass.
