Manufacturer: Tecta Design: Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) Model: D40 Condition: Nickel-plated tubular steel frame. The rattan weave shows some minor damage. Description Marcel Breuer created this iconic armchair in 1928. A special stylistic element of this Bauhaus classic is the S-curve in the upper part of the chair. Constructed according to the "arc-oscillation-counter-oscillation" principle, in which all curves of the steel tube find their counterpart. The technique harmoniously combines dynamism and lightness. Breuer, then director of the furniture workshop at the Bauhaus in Dessau, emigrated to the USA in 1933 because of his Jewish origins. There, together with Walter Gropius, he founded the Faculty of Architecture at Harvard University and became one of the most renowned architects of his generation.
